PROMOS MODULAR TRAINING

PROMOS/TECH TRANSFER TRAINING AND NETWORKING/PROMOS MODULAR TRAINING

Based on the analysis of the ECTS legal situation and the possibilities to implement it into the PROMOS training, we are developing three learning modules Science Communication, Intellectual Property and Entrepreneurship that will be tested during the lifetime of the project. The education and training modules are designed primarily for the Master and Ph.D. students (EFQ 7 and 8), but have rather basic introductory and practice-oriented focus, therefore the qualification level would correspond to EFQ 5.

Learning module 1. Science Communication

    • Relevant science communication audiences, in research and development as well as outside academia. Learning about different audiences and gaining skills to detect and reach them.
    • Communication tools and channels that can be used for science communication. Learning how to select appropriate tools for selected audience.
    • Explaining the benefits of research and development to non-scientific beneficiaries. Learning basic communication tools and trying these out with one’s own scientific content.
    • Recognizing successful science communication. Learning about commonly used tools of assessment and trying selected tools with one’s own scientific content.

Learning module 2. Intellectual Property

    • Intellectual property, what it is and how to manage it properly as a researcher.
    • Intellectual property rights, different kinds and specific uses.
    • Patent, what it is and how to assess the potential of a scientific finding for patenting.
    • Calculation of patent obtaining costs
    • Planning obtaining the patent and steps that need to be taken to obtain a patent
    • Assessing market value of a scientific finding in relationship to the intellectual property rights (who takes care of what in the research and development structure).

Learning module 3. Entrepreneurship

    • Basic principles of entrepreneurship.
    • Conducting market research to develop a relevant business plan from a scientific finding.
    • What a business plan is, and what steps need to be taken to develop it successfully.
    • How to prepare a successful pitch presentation.
